Outdated versions of Microsoft Windows

Issue

You want to install ESET NOD32 Antivirus on a computer with Windows 7, Windows 8 (8.1) or Windows Home Server 2011

You have updated ESET NOD32 Antivirus to the latest version on a computer with Windows 7, Windows 8 (8.1) or Windows Home Server 2011

ESET NOD32 Antivirus displays a notification Outdated operating system during the installation or in the main program window

Details

Based on the latest information from Microsoft, support for Windows 8.1 will end in January 2023. Windows 7 support ended on January 14, 2020. For more information, see End of support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

Due to technical limitations, ESET NOD32 Antivirus version 16 might be the last to support Windows 7, Windows 8 (8.1) and Windows Home Server 2011. The following information applies to ESET NOD32 Antivirus version 16:

ESET NOD32 Antivirus version 16 is supported on Windows 7, Windows 8 (8.1) and Windows Home Server 2011

ESET does not guarantee you will be able to upgrade to the latest product version in the future

ESET NOD32 Antivirus version 16 will be supported and will receive updates according to our End of Life policy.

Windows versions support for future ESET NOD32 Antivirus versions is dependent on changes made by Microsoft

Upgrading your Operating system is important for your security in general, not only for ESET NOD32 Antivirus to work on your computer

Solution

The following solutions are available:

Upgrade to Windows 10 or Windows 11

The upgrade process is relatively easy, and in many cases, you can do it without losing your files. Before upgrading to Windows 10:

1.Back up important data.

2.Read Microsoft's Upgrade to Windows 10 FAQ or Upgrade to Windows 11 FAQ and update your Windows Operating system.

Move to a new computer and transfer ESET product

If you are going to purchase a new computer or device, learn how to transfer your existing ESET product.

If you continue to use Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 after support has ended, your PC will still work, but it may become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Your PC will no longer receive Windows updates (including security updates). To disable the notification:

1.Open the main program window > Setup > Advanced setup (F5) > Notifications, and click Edit next to Application statuses.

2.In the General group, deselect the check box next to Your operating system is outdated. Click OK > OK.
